OPEN, a leading payment solution provider in the Nordics, is excited to announce that the company has engaged in an agreement to provide technology to Virta, a global pioneer in smart electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions. With the agreement Virta aims to further enhance the integration of advanced payment technology into the expanding EV charging infrastructure and uses OPEN as a technology provider for the Virta Payment Kiosk that was launched in collaboration between Virta, Mastercard and Worldpay by FIS in July 20231.
OPEN, with over 30 years of experience in different payment solutions and integrations, is offering a comprehensive set of core technology elements for Virta Payment Kiosk, including remote monitoring and management capabilities.
OPEN has been at the forefront of developing innovative payment solutions to meet the evolving needs of businesses in both traditional Petroleum/Carwash industry and the growing EV charging industry. The recently launched Virta Payment Kiosk is utilizing OPEN’s “Open OR-eV” outdoor payment solution concept, allowing EV drivers to conveniently pay with cards. Additionally, the Open OR-eV payment solution together with Virta EV charging platform technology enables streamlining the management of charging infrastructure for businesses and operators through centralized control.
Virta, a recognized leader in smart EV charging solutions globally, has chosen OPEN as its technology provider to integrate OPEN’s OR-eV payment solution into Virta’s comprehensive EV charging ecosystem. This strategic selection has been a central building block in Virta designing the seamless physical card payment experience for EV drivers and in ensuring efficient control over their charging infrastructure.
“We are thrilled about the market feedback the Virta Payment Kiosk has received as the first global solution filling the physical card payment gap in electric car charging experience. Our technology provider OPEN’s experience in implementing the strict requirements of the likes of our global partners Mastercard and Worldpay from FIS, has played an important role in making this step possible, said Elias Pöyry, Chief Business Development Officer and Co-Founder of Virta. “By integrating OPEN’s technology with our ecosystem, we can offer EV drivers the flexibility to pay with debit and credit cards, ensuring a convenient and user-friendly charging experience. The possibility for centralized control of multiple chargers through a single Payment Kiosk and OPEN extensive experience on outdoor payment solutions were key reasons why we choose OPEN as technology provider.”
Johan Svensson, CEO of OPEN Group, commented: “This demonstrates our commitment to driving innovation in the payment and EV charging landscape. By combining Virta’s expertise in smart EV charging infrastructure with OPEN’s expertise in secure unmanned outdoor payment solutions, Virta has been able to create a seamless and efficient payment experience.”
“We are excited to work with Virta to advance EV charging solutions. With our OR- eV technology integrated into Virta’s ecosystem, Virta can ensure a modern hassle-free experience for businesses and EV drivers alike,” added Harri Halminen, Head of Business Area, Fuel & Charging at OPEN.
